Happy Holidays to the Button Floozies!

Image
I have been creating a lot of mixed media ornaments. Almost every one has a button or buttons on it. It is always that last finishing touch. The button on this ornament really spoke to me.  It says HOLIDAY, FESTIVE AND PARTY! This button was found in a jar of buttons purchased recently at a local thrift store. The button is clear plastic and has silver glitter floating throughout. Take a look, and remember to have FUN throughout the next week!!! Happy Holidays to ALL! Classroom ornaments

Image
My youngest is in her last year of elementary school, and it just hit me that I won't have many more chances to help her and her friends make ornaments in the classroom.  I'm not crafty or even a huge kid person, but I always found this experience to be uplifting and fun so the closing of this door makes me a little sad. Last year I was pleasantly surprised when one of the ornaments included a button!  The moment came back to me as we unpacked ornaments over the weekend. Here's a link to a little blog post I wrote about it:   Paint, Bottle Caps and Buttons Too!

EVERY BUTTON CAN TELL A STORY

Image
Here is a collage ornament that I created for 2014.  On this ornament is a found plastic bird button that   really is the "Star" of this piece!  The button tells the story of how love lifts us up... Just like a bird's wings lifts him up. "Every button can tell a story".... "In Love" A collage ornament  created by Sue Marrazzo, ISAP, NCS Artist, and Button Collector www.suemarrazzo.blogspot.com

Geisha Japanese Button

Image
I am letting go of one of my collector buttons! I have had this button for years and still love it. I just never have used it for any project and thought someone else might have a project for her. It should be a Star at any Button Show. I purchased it from a button dealer from New York City years ago in Paducah Kentucky at a National Quilt Show, did you ever go to that quilt show? All I know is it is a silver over brass Geisha Japanese Girl, probably taken off of some royalty garment . She is 2 inch in diameter ,has a small dent on back                                                                                           If any of you know anything else about this button let me now. I had never seen one like it and haven't seen one since . I have never cleaned it with any cleaner

Recycle Santa

Image
I have saved this sweatshirt since the 1990's . It was my youngest daughters when she was in high school. We all wore these painted Christmas sweatshirts back them. Remember? Well I just couldn't' throw it away because of the BUTTONS on it LOL. Yesterday I was digging around in my Christmas closet to see what i was going to use this year and this sweatshirt was hanging in the closet and a light bulb went off.  Well anyway I made a pillow out of Mr Button Santa.                                                             My daughter doesn't even know I post on Button Floozies so I can tell you I am wrapping this up for her for Christmas this year

Button sorting

Image
A picture of a peaceful interlude -- sorting buttons from a thrift shop grab bag. Many were very common, but these are my favorites: above, celluloid in blue and brown, and a chunky black plastic button with inlaid metal. These "cookie" buttons, older plastic. Black glass, aurora borealis glass, and a metal button that I particularly liked. I'm getting emails from participants that their White Christmas Button Books are going out in the mail -- so excited to see and post photos of the results when they are received!

I recently made a jacket out of old cashmere sweaters I have been saving along with some cashmere wool that I felted and cut up.  I needed a button so I went to Webs Yarn Store in Northampton MA to see what they had. The store is huge for all you knitters ... which I am not .... but they have a great selection of modern buttons. They have this column and on 3 sides there are tubes and tubes of buttons!! SIDE 1 SIDE 2 close up of SIDE 2 SIDE 3  close up of SIDE 3  close up of SIDE 1  This is my jacket.  The vintage button is a one a friend gave me.  I love the button but didn't really like it on the jacket.  I found about 4 or 5 contenders but finally decided on this ceramic button that I felt was perfect! The winner is!! To see more of my jacket go to Needle and Hook
