Button Floozies

Hello, fellow button crafters, collectors, hoarders and all-around button lovers. My name is Donna Liljegren of Brynwood Needleworks . I'm one of the new contributors here, and I'm looking forward to sharing my love of all-things-button with you! Unlike many button collectors, my mum (who does not sew) didn't inspire my "Button Love". My "almost mother-in-law", Grace, whom I have loved for over 35 years, gave me her vast collection about ten years ago, and those beautiful buttons set my heart afire. Although I made the wise decision not to marry her son all those years ago, she and I have remained steadfast friends. She calls me "daughter", and I call her "Mom"...and believe it or not, her son and daughters and I are like family. I truly got the best of both worlds! Hello, sister Floozies!  I am thrilled to have been accepted in this new round of membership.  I'm  Barbara of Vintage Bunty  and have been a keen button collector for several years now.  I live in the UK and love pretty, mainly smaller, unusual buttons, as these are the kind I like to work with. I collect mother of pearl, new and old buttons and also love the slightly distressed old linen buttons too.  I use buttons all the time in my work and am always on the lookout for something different, visiting junk shops and bric a brac markets where possible. Here is my first photo of some of my favourites, some from a Paris flea market, some from EBay, some kindly given by friends (cyber and otherwise!) and others by serendipity!  Hope you like them.

I am Allison of Dominant Hands and I love buttons. I am so excited to be one of the newest Button Floozie bloggers. Like many of you, my first fascination with buttons came from shifting through the buttons my mother collected. She was an avid sewer and had lots of pretty buttons. My collection now includes many of her vintage buttons which I use to embellish my fiber jewellery. I love sewing vintage buttons onto my crocheted fiber rings. Or, I like to use them to add character to a crocheted wrist cuff. The right button can make all the difference! I'm looking forward to getting to know my fellow Button Floozies and posting more in the future!

...and now it's official! I'm Laurie, aka Indulge Your Shelf , and am thrilled to be among this group of people who love buttons as much as I do! The story of my love of buttons began like so many of us -- by rifling through my mother's button box in and making piles of my favorites.  Fast forward to when I was a newlywed, and shopping in Alton, Illinois with my mother-in-law; at a junk shop, I found a cool old tin full of buttons for $5.  Inside were some of the most wonderful examples of buttons from the early 1900s.  I've been actively collecting ever since.  I love to craft with my buttons, and find just the perfect one to embellish one of my projects. Very recently, I joined the Colorado State Button Club, and learned that my button collection is not as exquisite as I once thought.  I've seen some breathtaking buttons in my short time with the CSBC.  I now aspire to learn all I can about the buttons I have. I’m Pallas, one of your newest Button Floozies, and I am happy to be part of your group. My first memories of my button fascination began with my mother’s button box. My sister and I spent rainy afternoons touching and sorting buttons. We each had our favorites, and I knew which piece of clothing many of them inhabited before moving to the button box. I also enjoy old fabrics, lace, photographs, sewing notions and ephemera that I use to create mixed media art quilt collage. I call my creations Threads in Time by Pallas , thus the name of my blog and website: Threads in Time. Here is a picture of one of my sectioned button boxes, and one of some of the deco buttons photographed on a piece of vintage barkcloth - another favorite. Spring fever, flower fun with buttons!!! Easy and fun to make, scap fabric and a button or two. They sometimes are called burned flowers because you hold the edges after you cut the circle near a candle to curl the edges, different fabrics do different things! Sew buttons in the middle! I read on another blog where she uses any leftover fabric she has. Just be careful with the flame from the candle. I made these into pins, but you can do so many things with them, add to a necklace, decorate something in your home, Easter baskets! Headbands!!

Thought I would share a picture of a few of my favorite thrift store button finds. Got a bagful for $1, and these were my favorite out of the bag. Don't know if these are real mink or what, they do look like real fur though. Aren't they pretty?
