Merry Buttons!

Happy National Button Day

Image
November 16 is National Button Day -- a day set aside to honor the simple button.  Going back to the 13th century, buttons have been prized as useful and then made into something much more special, as with so many functional, everyday things.  The National Button Society , founded in 1938, declared this day.  Celebrate your buttons today and all week!  Email me photos of your favorites and I will share them on this page for the rest of the month: buttonfloozies@gmail.com

Fabric Pumpkins, With Buttons!

Image
I have been enjoying crafting pumpkins from vintage fabrics; when I'm finished piecing and stuffing them, then the fun starts, especially when I dig into my vintage buttons to embellish them!  Here are a few I just made. I love that chunky, brass look button with an incised flower petal pattern; it's hollow inside! This rectangular, orange toned celluloid button was hard to part with, but I think it makes a fabulous pumpkin "stem"! This little jeweled button was just the perfect size to attach an antique, crocheted tassel to the top of this pumpkin decorated with lace.

I'm just enjoying the detail on some of my favorite button types: buffed celluloid. Who else is a fan?

Playfully Collected

If that box of button "chocolate" a few posts ago made your mouth water, this might just be your thing, too: buttons in a jewelry case.  I keep one of these small boxes with compartments around and as I bring home my thrift store finds or am gifted them, I store them temporarily there.  When it's full, I can move it to "permanent" button storage -- or just keep it around like I did this one.  It's fun to fun my fingers through them!  Do you keep any of your buttons out to casually enjoy?

Inside a Button

When I was going through buttons recently, I found one that had broken open. It's very old, and I thought you all would get a kick out of seeing the inside, as I did!
