Button Floozies

It's a lot of fun to meet creative people from all over the world who share a love of the humble button. Penny is a fellow Floozie I "met" through one of our swaps a couple of years ago.  She just sent me this surprise in the mail: Knowing my love of vintage, and buttons -- and vintage buttons! -- she created a button posy.  It came with a cute card, and letter, and it was mounted on another sweet vintage card! At the center of the button creation is an antique glass charm string button.  I love it!   I was going to make black organza flowers to use with my collection of beaded, sequined, and lace leaves on a suffrage crazy-quilt project.  After about the third organza rose  I was bored and found bits of trims to gather into a circle.  I used a vintage glass button for the center. How cool are these? Victorian black hats were my inspiration.     These are some of the trims! And these are the leaves to use with them.

It's so fun to see our Button Floozies community continue to grow.  We are close to 1,000 followers now, and when we reach that magical number we will be having another wonderful button giveaway! Here is a lot of beautiful glass buttons I won the other day in an eBay auction: These are black glass and I have been painted with pink accents.  They are what collectors call "mother/daughter" buttons as the sets are identical except for their size (and, in this case, number.) More black glass, this time round with panted stripes: I love these two glass buttons with a painted or perhaps transferred design in the middle; I turned one over so you could see how it is mounted: These, to me, are the most special: they are glass balls and I do believe they are an example of blown glass, but it's hard to tell.  They could actually be plastic.  (I was so alarmed to see that the seller sent all these buttons in an envelope -- but by some miracle they all arrived i...

I found these lovey, heavy, blingy buttons in a grab bag of vintage sewing notions at the thrift store the other day: These beauties just came to me via a swap called Grandma's Attic Matchbox swap: And, look at this adorable, tiny tin (it's about the size of a nickel) that held more buttons: Have you found any buttons this week?  Do tell!

i have seen buttons like this in a "marcasite" colourway but not in a goldtone before , they are glass and they have a 4-way brass shank *** these are unusual too they are glass with a faux printed silk effect to the centres , the rim and colour remind me of victorian jet mourning buttons but the floral pattern makes me think 1950's these also have the 4-way brass shanks Please can you help identifying the age of these buttons? My favorite old buttons are the ones with rhinestones. I was excited to find this wonderful assortment recently. One little button can inspire a whole new creation, like the ones I used on this vintage looking Snowfolk I finished recently: My favorite color of button? PINK, of course! Nancy Lee
