Button Floozies

 If that box of button "chocolate" a few posts ago made your mouth water, this might just be your thing, too: buttons in a jewelry case.  I keep one of these small boxes with compartments around and as I bring home my thrift store finds or am gifted them, I store them temporarily there.  When it's full, I can move it to "permanent" button storage -- or just keep it around like I did this one.  It's fun to fun my fingers through them!  Do you keep any of your buttons out to casually enjoy?

I recently found this jar of buttons at a church yard sale. The little jar was filled to the top with a variety of buttons. I dumped them out on a plate to see what was inside. There were many different buttons. You gotta love these yard sale finds!  Thanks for Looking!

I just finished this mixed media painting this morning. As a finishing touch, I went to my BUTTON COLLECTION. After trying at least twelve different buttons....I settled on the amber clear acrylic button. Buttons and Art go together perfectly! Here are a collection of buttons that I purchased in a mixed bag at a local thrift store. I have been creating a lot of mixed media ornaments. Almost every one has a button or buttons on it. It is always that last finishing touch. The button on this ornament really spoke to me.  It says HOLIDAY, FESTIVE AND PARTY! This button was found in a jar of buttons purchased recently at a local thrift store. This is a small collage created with found papers, notions, and a  vintage button. The button is the perfect finishing touch to this collage art.  This just sold recently to a young woman who was going to give this to her friend. Her friend loves strawberries. I made a visit to the local Salvation Army Thrift Store to look for things for my ART CLASSES. I came across a large bag of BUTTONS ON CARDS! What a find! This is only half of this bag of buttons. Most are plastic, and there are some that have metal accents. I noticed that I had a collection from the following button companies: Costumakers-- made in the U.S.A LaMode Buttons-- made in Italy, Japan, and Holland Streamline-- made in Holland, italy, and Thailand LaPetite-- made in Germany Lansing Co.-- made in Japan Premiere Collection-- made in Italy This is a nice addition to my ever growing BUTTON COLLECTION! Since I've written a novel entitled The Button Collector, at some point I figured out that it wouldn't be such a bad idea for me to learn a little bit about button collecting.  This became especially apparent when people started contacting me with their button collecting questions! At first I did some research through books and the internet, but eventually I was invited to a real live meeting of a real live button club.  Woo Hoo!  Of course, I went. The particular meeting I attended was with the Western North Carolina Button Club. It started with our hostess wowing us with her collection of 19th-Century Mandarin hat buttons, but I was also quite impressed by many other buttons the members passed around--the Victorian button nails used to hang pictures, the mourning buttons made of hair, the smugglers' buttons  . . . and many more I can't remember. Here it is the end of June already! Summer just started.  I was cleaning my art studio. When I came across a big tin of buttons.  I took the lid off the tin and spent a half hour looking  at what was inside.
