Button Floozies

I have a wide variety of black glass buttons -- and the unique shape of this one makes it a favorite! It's shaped like a boat, and then incised and accented with gold paint. On the reverse, the cut-out button hole. These buttons are sometimes mistakenly referred to as "jet" -- the actual jet ones are rarer, but from about the same era as the many small black glass varieties. I hope you've enjoyed celebrating National Button Week as much as I've enjoyed showing off some of my favorite, beautiful buttons!

This beautiful painted button just looks like it's made from metal; it's actually celluloid! I adore the color combination! Look at the detail on the bottom!

This button is carved from wood. The shape is so unusual! The wood inside is just lovely, isn't it? Happy National Button Week!

This button just says, Japan to me.  I don't know where it's from, but it is a plastic button from the 1950s era I believe. From this angle, you can see the unique shape of the pink ridges.

I love the COLOR of this button like crazy.  Its chunkiness, and the rose motif, are extra added bonuses! From the wavy back, you get an idea of how unique it is! Show me your favorites for National Button Week!

To celebrate National Button Week, I'm posting some of my favorite buttons and invite you to do the same! Take a look at this beauty -- it's encrusted with bling and china beads. Doesn't it look good enough to eat?! As you can see from the reverse, its base is metal.  I would have loved to have seen the garment this button was created for!

As promised, I am going to celebrate National Button Week by sharing some of my favorite buttons with you.  This one is definitely in my top ten: it's a hand made artisan button.  The artist used an original fashion illustration and mounted it into a button, using composite to enhance the button's background. Button collectors always want to see the back of the button -- so here is this one, with the artist's signature, date of the illustration used, and the date it was made -- 1967. Show me your favorite buttons, too, this week!  Even if we've seen it before on the blog, it was probably long ago...I know I'd like another look!
