Button Art Museum

Image
Today I opened my email to find a Pinterest message that someone had re-pinned a picture from my Beautiful Buttons board. I checked out her board, which had a picture posted from a place called  The Button Art Museum in Vancouver Canada. I couldn't quite figure out how the website worked, but finally realized that clicking on the little thumbprints under the first large picture brought up different art. Then I noticed that the owners had their own Pinterest site,  BAM . It's button heaven, so check it out. (But only if you have lots of time!)

Valentines on my mind

Mother of pearl buttons add such softness, don't they? This is one of the tiny hearts I made to cheer myself while it snows, and blows, outside!

Vintage Button Booklet

One social media site I belong to is called The Vintage Village . It is a Ning community site, for those of you familiar with that. Many of the members have vintage or antique shops (hence the name), but others do not and are collectors or just interested in the subject. Members have their own "page" and can post photos and links to stuff they sell, whether on Etsy, Ruby Lane, Zibbet, or other websites. Today this caught my eye, posted by an Etsy shop by the name of Quinsippi Mercantile, who specializes in paper ephemera. It is a 1969 revised edition of the booklet published by the National Button Society. Here is the link if you would like to see more photos and details about this treasure. Button Booklet

When the buttons go on it is almost done....

When I do crazy quilting there is a specific order...piecing, laces, trims, embroidery, beads and the final step are the buttons.. So when you see me adding the buttons you know it's almost done.  I've been collecting the buttons for my women's suffrage quilt for 3 years.  They are mostly vintage metal and black glass. I have been doing buttons all week...hundreds of them. To see the final stages go to http://olderrose.blogspot.com/2014/01/plans-are-shaping-up-for-border.html
