Beauties from Betsy

Image
I received the loveliest, most precious buttons the other day from my blogging friend, Betsy !  She LOVES buttons, too!  She's the one who made these fabulous button bird earrings that I wear often, and love!  She sells them and many other fabulous things in markets, and in her Etsy shop .  She sent me the buttons as a surprise along with this FABULOUS necklace that I won from her blog giveaway!  You can read about it here .  She also included a scrabble tile charm with my initial on it.  These are the kinds of buttons that make me literally swoon -- and wonder how she can bear to part with them!  Look at that little shoe!  It is DOUBLE sided!  Betsy is as generous as she is talented.  The silver toned one has a shell inset.  The small black and gold one is glass.  And the one near the bottom left is celluloid. The blue one on the bottom left is glass! One of the fun things about Betsy's blo...

Soft, white, pearl

Image
I'm at it again -- creating with buttons -- and this time enjoying the soft look of mother-of-pearl and shell buttons in vintage glass. Have you ever altered a bottle?  I just finished my first one: it's for a  Bird Song 4  swap.  It's a raffle drawing-style swap so who ends up with it is anyone's guess! I decided to stick with a low-color palette this time and it was an adventure from start to finish. First I had to find an old bottle.  Bottles are not something (believe it or not) I collect, so finding just the right one was a challenge.  I finally found a true vintage one at a street market a few weeks ago. I chose this one because if has a rather flat front that I knew would take well to altering, as well as some interest in the ribbing on the reverse, above. The hardest part for me was figuring out a stopper or cork for the bottle.  I actually bought some glass bottle stoppers online from an Etsy vintage seller but neither fit i...

More from the ornament swap!

Image
Here are the ornaments that I received in the swap; it should have been four, but one of the participants never sent hers to any of us, unfortunately. The stocking on the left was made by Wendy. The stars in the middle, by Laura. The cute Santa box is by Pam . I hope everyone is preparing for a great Christmas holiday!

Button Floozies Christmas Ornament Swap 2012

Image
Here is the ornament that I made and sent to my swap partners in the Button Floozies Christmas Ornament Swap! I made it from a vintage Jello mold tin that I painted, glittered, and filled with snowy things! There's a little vintage Monopoly house and hotel -- the old, wooden ones -- that I painted white, as well as a bottle brush tree and little sequined trim flowers that look like snow-covered bushes. The hanger is held in place by a mother of pearl button, and the rest of the required buttons for the swap are dangles hanging from the top.  I love making these! If you'd like to see more ornaments, check out the Button Floozies Swap group flickr page !
