Vintage Button Booklet

One social media site I belong to is called The Vintage Village. It is a Ning community site, for those of you familiar with that. Many of the members have vintage or antique shops (hence the name), but others do not and are collectors or just interested in the subject. Members have their own "page" and can post photos and links to stuff they sell, whether on Etsy, Ruby Lane, Zibbet, or other websites.

Today this caught my eye, posted by an Etsy shop by the name of Quinsippi Mercantile, who specializes in paper ephemera.

It is a 1969 revised edition of the booklet published by the National Button Society.
Here is the link if you would like to see more photos and details about this treasure.

When the buttons go on it is almost done....

When I do crazy quilting there is a specific order...piecing, laces, trims, embroidery, beads and the final step are the buttons.. So when you see me adding the buttons you know it's almost done.  I've been collecting the buttons for my women's suffrage quilt for 3 years.  They are mostly vintage metal and black glass.

I have been doing buttons all week...hundreds of them.

Vintage Blue Buttons

Just wanted to share a cute little button I've stitched to the front of a camera bag.I'm not sure what era this one is from but I think it goes so nicely with the retro looking fabrics :)It's a sky blue plastic that looks somewhat like a knot.

more about the bag on my blog ;)

Thrift store button grab bags: hidden treasures

I love to buy those little grab bags of buttons at thrift stores.
You just never know what you'll get; these three ranged in price from 99 cents to $1.99 each.
They yielded lots of plain, pedestrian buttons.
And some non-button stuff, like these glass beads (or charms.)
And these stick pins, and stick pin bases.  Won't those bases look cute with buttons attached for simple pins?
Then these modern buttons, which remind me of cat eyes.
Some metal, and shell set in metal.
And then this assortment; I love the large, shiny grey shell buttons.
And wouldn't those penny buttons look cute on a President's Day themed tag?
I think that's where they're headed.
These two were my favorites!
All in all, it wasn't a bad haul for the money
And the few dollars I paid for the three bags was well worth the thrill of the hunt, to me.

A Button Ornament Gift...

I was so pleased to receive a Christmas surprise from my blog friend,
Marydon of The Blushing Rose blog. We exchange gifts each year and this
year, she created a beautiful layered button and yo yo ornament just for me!

You can see more photographs and read all about it here on my blog at
Brynwood Needleworks. (The chandelier drop was an extra bonus!)

Happy New Year, everyone.
Wishing each of you mounds and mounds of beautiful buttons this year!
