White Christmas Button Book Swap -- Part 4

Geisha Japanese Button

I am letting go of one of my collector buttons! I have had this button for years and still love it. I just never have used it for any project and thought someone else might have a project for her. It should be a Star at any Button Show.
I purchased it from a button dealer from New York City years ago in Paducah Kentucky at a National Quilt Show, did you ever go to that quilt show?
All I know is it is a silver over brass Geisha Japanese Girl, probably taken off of some royalty garment . She is 2 inch in diameter ,has a small dent on back

If any of you know anything else about this button let me now. I had never seen one like it and haven't seen one since . I have never cleaned it with any cleaner

Buttons On Ornaments

I created some new mixed media tree ornaments. These 3 have found buttons on them.  I am currently selling these in 3 art venues.  Take a peek...

White Christmas Button Book Swap - Part 2

It is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas around here, as the White Christmas Button book swaps are being posted all over Blogland!  Here are two more links from our swap for you to enjoy:  This is the front cover of Wendy's book!  Look at that mitten with a button and snowflake decoration! Wendy posted photos of all the pages of her book on her blog, here. (There are also photos there of her partner Pat's book!) This beauty was created by Diane and you can see it and read her story of cozy creation on her blog, here. More to come!

White Christmas Button Book Swap - Part 1

The first of the White Christmas Button Book Swaps have begun to arrive and they are a feast for the eyes!  I will be sharing them as they are revealed. JoAnn, who blogs at Vintage Dragonfly, created this beautiful paper/mixed media book using vintage postcards; this is just one page: To see all the other pages, please visit her blog post about it! And here's a sneak peek at the cover of a lovely paper/mixed media book by Valery Anne: You can see each and every page of Valery's book by visiting our Button Floozies Swap Flickr page. To see more of her work, visit her blog here! Please check back for more lovely photos! I am expecting my book to arrive today and can't wait to show you the ones I created!

Recycle Santa

I have saved this sweatshirt since the 1990's . It was my youngest daughters when she was in high school. We all wore these painted Christmas sweatshirts back them. Remember? Well I just couldn't' throw it away because of the BUTTONS on it LOL. Yesterday I was digging around in my Christmas closet to see what i was going to use this year and this sweatshirt was hanging in the closet and a light bulb went off.  Well anyway I made a pillow out of Mr Button Santa.

My daughter doesn't even know I post on Button Floozies so I can tell you I am wrapping this up for her for Christmas this year

Button sorting

A picture of a peaceful interlude -- sorting buttons from a thrift shop grab bag. Many were very common, but these are my favorites: above, celluloid in blue and brown, and a chunky black plastic button with inlaid metal. These "cookie" buttons, older plastic. Black glass, aurora borealis glass, and a metal button that I particularly liked. I'm getting emails from participants that their White Christmas Button Books are going out in the mail -- so excited to see and post photos of the results when they are received!
I recently made a jacket out of old cashmere sweaters I have been saving along with some cashmere wool that I felted and cut up.  I needed a button so I went to Webs Yarn Store in Northampton MA to see what they had.
The store is huge for all you knitters ... which I am not .... but they have a great selection of modern buttons.
They have this column and on 3 sides there are tubes and tubes of buttons!!

This is my jacket.  The vintage button is a one a friend gave me.  I love the button but didn't really like it on the jacket.
I found about 4 or 5 contenders but finally decided on this ceramic button that I felt was perfect!
The winner is!!

Swap partners and grab bags

Partnering has happened for the White Christmas Button Book swap and emails went out yesterday to all who signed up; if there were any glitches and you didn't receive yours, please let me know ASAP! Meanwhile...look at the vintage notions I picked up at the last estate sale I visited -- there didn't seem to be any real treasures in the button bags but I had to get them anyway, just for the thrill of the hunt!
