National Button Society - National Button Week

March brings us the National Button Week.

(from my button collection, a grouping of small Victorian Celluloid buttons)

From my buckles, buttons & dress trim collection I purchased in England

and from France

(buttons on original button cards from the collection of Tara Boynton)

From the Home page of the National Button Society website
"Households have long followed the practice of snipping buttons from clothing headed for the ragbag. Do you remember playing with your mother’s—or grandmother’s or great-grandmother’s—button box or jar or tin? The impulse to collect is a basic part of the human psyche, and buttons have been admired and collected for centuries. Button collecting was recognized as an organized hobby through the founding of the National Button Society in 1938."  To read more, click on this link: NBS.

Here is one of the postcards I've created for
button presentations:

Happy Button Week!

What a glorious post...we all love our buttons but to understand how they can tell our journeys and our stories. Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart
I've been collecting buttons by default s I needed them for the things I make. I've ended u with some beautiful buttons and I'm very careful about what I use my most favourite buttons for (if I use them at all!). 20s - 40s. buttons are my favourites, especially bakealite ones.
I have been a button collector and lover of buttons for some time now, maybe 30 years.

I have one big metal button with a Chinese woman on it.
I want to post about it someday

I really like your Victorian buttons and the round scalloped with rhinestone , is it a button?

Your button collection is drool-worthy! Thank you for posting, Tami!

To answer Curtains in My Tree about the round scalloped with rhinestones... it is not a button, it is vintage dress trim, it is Celluloid with rhinestone embellishments.
Thanks for sharing this--the statement is beautiful.
